Review

“This 693 page atlas offers numerous pictures of various clinical situations, assisting the clinician in his diagnosis and subsequently therapeutic decision making. A beautiful and very useful book!!”  (Vet Nurses Today, 1 October 2015)

“The authors of the first edition of the Atlas of Small Animal CT and MRIhave put together an excellent reference tool.”  (Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 15 September 2015)

"...the Atlas of Small Animal CT and MRI should be a useful, comprehensive, single-source resource for specialists and specialists in training as well as anyone else interested in imaging. The atlas provides an overview of important anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology of anatomic regions to complement numerous quality patient-based examples demonstrating CT and MRI imaging characteristics of normal and diseased structures in common clinical disorders. I will keep this atlas close at hand for quick reference to help with differentials in my clinical cases." Kari L. Anderson, DVM, Diplomate ACVR Professor and Section Chief, Medical Imaging Veterinary Clinical Sciences Department University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine

"The picture material and image quality that illustrate the textbook are outstanding, and this is what makes this book so special.  Each figure in the Atlas includes a large header that identifies a specific pathology. The cross sectional images are presented in a comparative format with correlation with other diagnostic tests (eg. pathology, endoscopy, ultrasound) or 3D reconstructions, and always mention the histology or cytology results. In many cases, CT and MRI examples of a same pathology are displayed on the same page, which offers direct comparison of both CT and MRI, and give the unique opportunity to understand the pros and cons of each modality."

Julien Labruyère DVM CertVDI DipECVDI MRCVSEuropean and RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Diagnostic ImagingVetCT

From the Back Cover Atlas of Small Animal CT & MRI is a highly illustrated guide to the common clinical disorders of dogs and cats that are now routinely diagnosed using computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. This invaluable new resource features a wealth of high-quality CT and MRI images and includes relevant radiographic, ultrasonographic, endoscopic, and gross pathology images, offering a unique approach emphasizing comparative imaging and pathologic correlation. The book is organized by anatomical region with subsections focusing on specific anatomical sites or disorders—from the head, neck, brain and spine to the thorax, abdomen, and musculoskeletal system. The accompanying text emphasizes important imaging features focusing on what is important to the diagnosis of disease. Where helpful to the imaging diagnosis, information related to disease etiopathology, non-imaging diagnostic procedures, and treatment is also included. Essential for specialists in training and qualified specialists in the fields of small animal veterinary diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, and surgery. Also of interest to those in general veterinary practice who commonly refer patients for CT and MRI examinations.

It's a must have. However the quality of the books themselves I have received was poor. I have received the book the first time with the cover not glued to the book, shipped it back. I have now received a second one, which has almost issue, the spine cover is only partially glued to the textblock. It is unfortunate to see that the quality of the print was not optimal, as it is otherwise an amazing book !

A must-have for anybody interested in cross-sectional imaging in dogs and cats; high quality atlas By Dr. Silke Hecht This atlas represents a comprehensive compilation of cross-sectional (computed tomography, CT, and magnetic resonance, MR) images of normal anatomy and a wide range of pathologic conditions in dogs and cats. The book is logically structured into 6 sections (head and neck, brain, spine, thorax, abdomen and musculoskeletal system). A brief introduction and literature review at the beginning of each chapter provides an excellent and concise overview over relevant normal findings, anatomic variations, and pathologic lesions to be covered in the following imaging part. Multiple images are provided for each topic, often including both CT and MR images in various window settings and sequences, multiplanar reconstructions and 3-D volume rendered images of the same animal. Additionally, in many instances endoscopic, intra-operative or gross pathology images are provided along with CT and MR images of a given case, allowing clinical correlation. This is certainly the most comprehensive collection of normal and abnormal CT and MR images in small animal veterinary patients available to date. It does not only include examples of common diseases (e.g., nasal carcinoma or pituitary carcinoma) but also uncommon conditions cross sectional images of which are not easily found in the existing literature (e.g., effects of radiation on the brain or renal secondary parathyroidism). The book is beautifully produced, easy to follow, and the image quality is simply outstanding. Another review mentioned problems with the spine/binding - My copy is flawless, so I did not have the same experience. This atlas is a most valuable resource not only for veterinary radiologists and radiology residents but also for other specialists utilizing cross-sectional imaging (neurologist, internists, surgeons, (radiation) oncologists etc.), for private practitioners with access to CT or MRI, and for veterinary students seeking correlation between diagnostic imaging and pathologic findings. I very much enjoyed reading this book, and I would give it my highest recommendations. It is an absolute must-have for anybody interested in cross-sectional imaging in dogs and cats.

This is a MUST have for anyone using cross-sectional imaging, and definitely for all residents and diplomates using CT/MR. The book is very well organized, to the point, and has an abundance of pertinent information on most major and minor disease processes. This includes a wealth of CT/MR images, common imaging findings, anatomy (including some line drawings), common differentials, some pathophysiology, and even some supplemental images (3D reconstructions, radiographs, ultrasound, gross pathology, endoscopy including virtual colonoscopy). References at the end of the chapters make great supplemental readings for those of you taking boards. As far as quality goes - the images came out really sharp with excellent contrast and the paper feels very nice and glossy. The binding in my copy isn't perfect, but that is A ok with me. All I really care about is the quality of the images and information and I am loving this awesome book!

The information in this book is organized in the way the clinical mind thinks when analyzing a cross-sectional imaging exam. Too many radiology books are written from a pathologic classification standpoint which is of limited practical value.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Highly recommend By Asalei Very comprehensive book that covers a wide range of topics including imaging of the prostate, female reproducive organs, and transplant organs. Well-organized by organ system. Lots of images and diagrams. Very useful algorithms. Lots of practical information. Highly recommend.

For years we've dreamed of sending people to Mars. With the emergence of disruptive new technologies from space companies and university researchers, it's now possible to design mission architectures that can transport humans to Mars and return them to Earth more safely and cheaply than ever before. This book outlines a practical and affordable plan for establishing a research facility on Mars for use by international crews over numerous missions, initiating a process of settlement and opening up a new world for human civilisation, while simultaneously bringing together the nations of Earth in a noble and historic endeavour. This is a non-fiction book with 300 pages. Most of it is quite accessible although some basic scientific literacy will be useful. There are some mathematical calculations relevant to spacecraft design, which may be of interest to engineers and students, but which can also be skipped over by other readers without loss of meaning. The book contains lots of new ideas related to human exploration of Mars, including several original spacecraft designs, ideas for how to obtain breathable air, water, energy and propellant on Mars, and an affordable humans-to-Mars mission architecture based on the latest space hardware. Anyone interested in exploration and settlement of Mars will enjoy this book!

Christenson / Lunamation International Mars Research Station describes a plan to establish a base on Mars with a series of missions to rotate six occupants at a time. Basically it updates the ideas employed by previous Mars mission plans (such as Zubrin's Mars Direct) with new science and technology. But this is not just about a voyage to Mars to plant a flag and return; the IMRS is intended to establish long-term habitation on Mars. It includes plans to use resources from right there on Mars as much as possible with the latest technology, allowing exploration with rovers and expansion of the base with future missions. The author describes many parts in detail, and has done thorough research; other parts are yet to be finalized. One might quibble with a few details (redundancy in some sections, seemingly inconsistent dismissal of nuclear power, lots of acronyms -- not enough to give it less than 4 ½ stars), but this is overall a step in the right direction, and with all the research the author put into it, the book makes a great reference for any discussion of future Mars plans or for anyone writing about Mars. If you've read about Mars Direct and other plans, you'll probably want to read this to get updated on new innovations.

The amount of work and detail gone into the science behind this is simply astonishing. The International Mars Research Station manages to bridge the divide between layman's terms and technical jargon in a way that removes the enigma and mystery of pioneering Martian exploration and brings the concepts of Earth's imminent adventures to our neighboring planet into stark reality. With a focused look at what is achievable now, drawing on known scientific progress and up to the minute example usages of technology we already have available, this book really opened my eyes, and left me feeling truly excited about what is about to come.Excellently written, 5 stars.

Anatomy Studymate explains human anatomy the way it is meant to be explained, by maps and mnemonics instead of complicated pictures and long paragraphs. This book has 5 chapters covering the main regions of the body: upper limb, lower limb, thorax, abdomen & pelvis and head & neck. It includes 235 topics further divided into 131 easy to remember mnemonics, 51 maps for a simple diagrammatic view of various anatomical structures, 30 tables summarizing almost all the muscles of the human body and finally 23 summary verses for extremely important topics that couldn't fit in one of the previous 3 categories, and yet can not be ignored. This book is simply my study notes during my undergraduate study, then the exams for the master’s degree in surgery, and finally the step A exam of the membership of the royal college of surgeons (MRCS). And don’t worry, I passed them all, so you can depend on this book for a valid reason. Anatomy Studymate is not meant to replace anatomy text books. Unless coffee mate was meant to replace coffee. Think of it like a side dish, that can’t feed you alone. Yet, it adds a flavor to your meal. Ok!! Enough coffee and dinner talk. Bottom line, this book can really help you in many ways. When you study a topic for the first time, it can offer you a simpler –or sometimes deeper insights. Writing the mnemonics in your main source next to each topic is a good idea. Also during revision, I think that condensing the important topics of anatomy in 150 low-text and details-free pages can be helpful. At last during your postgraduate study, this book can be particularly helpful to remember the highlights and the hot topics, which are always the core of exams like masters, PhD and even MRCS.

Saved by the sea and repaying the favor By Cynthia Barnett “As every son of a Holocaust survivor knows,” David Helvarg writes in his remarkable biography of sea and self, “there is no such thing as a steady state.” That line has come back to me many time as I’ve contemplated Helvarg’s sea-story and his message, so essential I wish everyone who’s ever bent for a seashell or enjoyed the squeak of sand under bare foot would read this book. Saved by the Sea is at once a love story of the world’s oceans and an unflinching expose’ of what we’ve done to them. The reporting is a much deeper dive than many books on ocean science. Helvarg, a long-time environmental journalist and former war correspondent, builds a convincing history of the militaristic roots of U.S. marine science, and how intense focus on defense shifted funding away from watersheds, estuaries, salt marshes, mangrove swamps, wild beaches, sea-grass meadows, barrier islands, coral reefs, and the marine wildlife that depend on them. Now, the seas, and we, are suffering the consequences. While the story of what we’ve done to our oceans is devastating – as is Helvarg’s personal story of love, lost – the son of Holocaust survivors does not lose hope. Reporting from around the globe, Helvarg finds that most people, in most places, “have the same commonsense understanding that clean air, clean water, productive soil, bountiful seas, and wild places – including untrammeled beaches and coral reefs – are not luxuries to be deferred by the poor during a process of rapid integration into the world market, but rather the essentials of a decent life.” Humans come from the sea, and many of us carry Helvarg’s instinctive feeling of being saved by the sea. His book is an inspired call to personal and collective action, telling us this: It is long past time to return the favor.

Written in an autobiographical style this makes author David Helvarg's words powerful and meaningful. He lived the adventures about which he writes. The book interesting, has many facts to back up Helvarg's feelings and observations. Saved by the Sea has moments of sadness, delight, honesty - it's all there. You don't have to be an environmentalist to find value in this book, it's a perfect read for pure enjoyment. What more can I say without saying too much and making my review hard to believe. Touching, educational - real and honest. I'm going to read this book over many times I'm sure, and I can easily recommend it to other readers and know they won't be disappointed.

A jounalist goes personal By Manuel Ramos The problem with journalists is that they want to find out everything personal about people they are writing about, but when it comes to them, their families and their friends, those are all off limits. Here, David, goes personal and in so doing gives us an amazing personal story about one of our most ignored environmental tragedies of our times. Afterall, every time we enjoy the oceans it looks more or less the same, but what really happened under that beautiful ocean should scare anyone. Very well done, David.

For a Kentucky rifleman who spent his tour trudging through Vietnam's Central Highlands, it was Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'." For a "tunnel rat" who blew smoke into the Viet Cong's underground tunnels, it was Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze." For a black marine distraught over the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., it was Aretha Franklin's "Chain of Fools." And for countless other Vietnam vets, it was "I Feel Like I'm Fixin' to Die," "Who'll Stop the Rain," or the song that gives this book its title. In We Gotta Get Out of This Place, Doug Bradley and Craig Werner place popular music at the heart of the American experience in Vietnam. They explore how and why U.S. troops turned to music as a way of connecting to each other and the World back home and of coping with the complexities of the war they had been sent to fight. They also demonstrate that music was important for every group of Vietnam veterans―black and white, Latino and Native American, men and women, officers and "grunts"―whose personal reflections drive the book's narrative. Many of the voices are those of ordinary soldiers, airmen, seamen, and marines. But there are also "solo" pieces by veterans whose writings have shaped our understanding of the war―Karl Marlantes, Alfredo Vea, Yusef Komunyakaa, Bill Ehrhart, Arthur Flowers―as well as songwriters and performers whose music influenced soldiers' lives, including Eric Burdon, James Brown, Bruce Springsteen, Country Joe McDonald, and John Fogerty. Together their testimony taps into memories―individual and cultural―that capture a central if often overlooked component of the American war in Vietnam.

We Gotta Get Out of This Place: The Soundtrack of the Vietnam War (Culture, Politics, and the Cold War), by Doug Bradley, Craig Werner

Review "If you want to understand what it felt like, outside of combat itself, to live through and be part of the Vietnam War, read this book. Then, go listen to the music. I did both and I urge you to do the same."―Karl Marlantes, author of Matterhorn and What It's Like to Go to War"Thoroughly researched, powerfully written and insightful . . . Perhaps most fascinatingly of all, We Gotta Get Out of This Place demonstrates how the music that found its way into the lives of the men and women who fought the war changed as the war dragged on, reflecting the dramatic changes 'back in the world.' . . . In the concluding 'Solo' of the book, Vietnam vet Jay Maloney begins, 'There is no such thing as one Vietnam. There were more than two and a half million of them.' No single book could capture that many Vietnams, or the multitude of voices needed to describe them, any more than you could squeeze that many singers onto a single 45 RPM record or write a song to evoke all of their experiences. But the remarkable achievement of Bradley and Werner's We Gotta Get Out of This Place is how close they've come to making that many voices of Vietnam veterans heard."―Paste"Doug Bradley and Craig Werner's account of music's connection to the Vietnam War is intimate and deeply informative, with a scope that encompasses both the war itself and the way that music has helped raise awareness of veterans' issues long after its end. We Gotta Get Out of This Place gives the reader a good sense of how the popularity of different songs and styles waxed and waned over the years, as the mood of the war changed. It also gives plenty of space for extended first-person narratives (dubbed 'Solos') offering a diverse array of viewpoints, including many from veterans who found themselves in anti-war camps, those who felt more conflicted about the anti-war movement, and musicians like Country Joe McDonald and James Brown. Nuanced and frequently moving. #1 Music Book for 2015"―Rolling Stone"Of the many ways to relate the story of the Vietnam war, few are more vibrant and accessible than the way Doug Bradley and Craig Werner tell it. I devoured this book."―David Maraniss, author of They Marched into Sunlight: War and Peace, Vietnam and America, October 1967"We all love popular music and we all love soldiers. All we have left is memories. Maybe there is something to learn from this book, from their experiences, from the music. God, I hope so."―Country Joe McDonald"We Gotta Get Out of This Place is chock full of materials that present multi-voiced memories of how popular music related to the experiences of American GIs in and after the Vietnam War. The book will appeal to veterans, and in many ways is written by, for, and to them. But students and fans of popular music history, the history of the 1960s, and the history of war will also find it an engaging and worthwhile read."―Michael J. Kramer, author of The Republic of Rock: Music and Citizenship in the Sixties Counterculture"By letting the veterans and the music do the talking, Werner and Bradley take readers on a journey through the tension, sorrow, fear, and hope that defined American men and women's service in Vietnam. The diversity of voices and songs reminds us that the home front and the battlefront are always connected and that music and war are deeply intertwined."―Heather Marie Stur, author of Beyond Combat: Women and Gender in the Vietnam War Era"When you realize the average age of a combat soldier in Vietnam was 19, you can better appreciate how music would be indelibly written into the experiences of that powerfully formative time. This amazing book does justice to conveying the power and emotional impact of music throughout that era."―Bobby Muller, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines, Vietnam 1968-69, Founder and President, Vietnam Veterans of America"Through the testimonies Bradley and Werner collect we see, firsthand, how music provides a window into the war and tensions over generation, region, and race. Music becomes much more than an artifact of culture; it is the stuff of memory and part of the complex ways we all make meaning."―Tomás F. Summers Sandoval Jr., author of Latinos at the Golden Gate"Bradley and Werner understand more kinds of music, more songs, and more troops of more kinds than anyone else who's written about the American military experience in Vietnam. Whether you read it because you are interested in the war, the music, the politics, or because you're still trying to figure out what Hell was going on, We Gotta Get Out of This Place will be a revelation."―Dave Marsh, author of The Heart of Rock and Soul"Doug and Craig's program based on their book We Gotta Get Out of Here: The Soundtrack of the Vietnam War is outstanding. They grab your attention from the start and the music transports you. It's amazing to hear the music and the effect it had on the soldiers. You come away with a whole new perspective on the war and the music of the era."―Sonia Outlaw-Clark, West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center"I spoke with Doug Bradley and Craig Werner before a packed house at Mystery to Me about their extraordinary new book, We Gotta Get Out of This Place, which takes an insightful and nuanced look at the music of the Vietnam War. Doug and Craig played the music, and talked about the vets and musicians they had interviewed. I think it's safe to say no one who was there that night will soon forget it."―Doug Moe"Intimate and deeply informative, with a scope that encompasses both the war itself and the way that music has helped raise awareness of veterans' issues long after its end."―Madison Magazine

About the Author Doug Bradley, a Vietnam veteran, teaches a course on the war with Craig Werner, professor of Afro-American studies at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and author of Higher Ground: Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Curtis Mayfield, and the Rise and Fall of American Soul.

It captures, through music, what it was like to be thrown into a war in some godforsaken place when you were 20 years old and have your life changed forever. It does so in a moving and powerful way, through the words of many of the men and women who experienced it, carefully crafted and shaped into a cohesive whole by the authors, who lend their own voice and, in the case of one of them, Doug Bradley, his own experience. Words that are therapeutic to the reader but also, it is clear, to the writers.Much of that therapy now, as it was then, is found in the music. Music, integral to that time, and still so familiar a half century later. Music that linked the world into which they were cast with the world back home they were missing. We Gotta Get Outta This Place makes it all very real. The opening story gave me chills. Soldiers from all over arguing about which music would be played as their anthem. Dylan. Hendrix. Creedence. Beatles. Franklin. Like them, I didn’t see it coming when it was right in front of me.From there, the meticulous structure traces the intertwined and parallel paths of the times, the music and the progress and perception of the war. The “solos” give voice to a range of veterans and show how very different people can have a shared experience that the rest of us cannot ever fully understand. All of this with the perspective of a lifetime and at a time when they are starting to go. When their story, so central to the country for so long, is beginning to recede into history. A history, in contrast to the generation that came before them, that many people would just as soon forget. This is the kind of book that won’t let that happen.A terrific book. Powerful, moving and easy to read. More than that, an important book. A part of the historical record that needed to be written while there’s still time.

More Than You'll Expect By Rick Smith The truth about music is that if it's good enough...if it's poignant enough...if it's loved enough by the people, it lives on. For a time, at least. And, sometimes, even for a long time. The music that comes from "We Gotta Get Out of This Place" is both old and new. It's old because many of the songs are familiar favorites. But with these new arrangements -- skewed to stories of war in Vietnam -- they will change and enhance your knowledge of this war and of the men and women who served in it. Songs you may have sung are the same songs that spoke to Vietnam veterans. Lyrics you may have interpreted one way may have had different meanings altogether to the warriors and supporters who served America in Vietnam. This book is a comprehensive journey of music as a lifeline, from the beginning to the end of the Vietnam War and beyond. It's an impressive score of its own, with the reality of war always its major chord. Its stories take you inside the Vietnam War in a different way, and you will feel your eyes and heart open wide through songs you know and love. Authors Bradley and Werner include numerous first person solo essays from contributors who served. "We Gotta Get Out of This Place" will touch your spirit, haunt your sole and enlighten your understanding of the Vietnam War and of the men and women who were there. Be prepared for way more than you'll expect.

The Tie That Binds By Patricia Kramer I don't know what the music of the Iraq war was and is, but I hope there is some and lots of it.What an important moving book this is. The authors listened to and gave voice to so many Viet Nam vets and were able to describe what it was really like being in that war. The music supported the soldiers and divided them. It gave them comfort and strength and joy and helped them survive day to day.Doug Bradley, the co-author, is a vet and has a solo piece in the book. The solo pieces of many soldiers provide a long missing place for them to tell the story of their real experience in the hooch and on the battlefield. One solo piece is by Bobby Muller, who founded Vietnam Vets of America. He describes how Bruce Springsteen sought him out in 1980 and through a concert and his music helped pave the way for Viet Nam vets to step up and publicly support each other."Around the stage were guys in wheelchairs, gurneys. Man, getting those guys next to the stage was a big deal. Bruce starts off by telling the audience that 'we're here for the men and the women that fought the Vietnam war.' He talks about how Vietnam turned this whole country into that dark street and unless we're able to walk down those dark alleys and look into the eyes of the men and women that are down there, we're never gonna be able to get home. Then he introduces me! And I remember the point I wanted to drive home. I told the audience that is was ironic that after all the years when the businesses haven't come behind us and the political leaders have failed to rally behind us, that when you remember the divisions within our own generation about the war, that it ultimately turns out to be the very symbol of our generation, rock'n'roll, that brings us together, and it is rock'n'roll that is going to provide the healing process that everybody needs. So let's not talk about it, lets's get down to it, let's rock'n'roll!Later, Bruce called me to come down to the studio where he played this ballad, "Shut Out the Light," very moving. I said, 'Man, that was powerful.' He says, 'I got one more I want you to listen to.' He plays'Born in the U.S.A.' He looks at me and asks, 'Did I get it?' 'Yeah, you got it!'So did the many soldiers who heard the song and gained strength from it. Music is the tie that binds.

Worth your time and money By caroljohns827 Interesting handling of a sensitive subject, which is a GIANT leap from the lightweight subjects normally addressed by this Author. I hope this is something that she will continue. In other books, the Author provides interesting, albeit lightweight, topics with great plotting and good twists. This book is a historical examination of adult situations, rather than a light hearted look at courtship. The reader is drawn into a modern situation with a look back at a potentially similar historical situation. The situations and resolutions are not highly predictable. The characters are well developed, interesting and likeable. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK.

The author had the reader switching back and forth from modern day to the 1800's. Very enjoyable, would recommend!!

This book is a rare phenomenon in the publishing world. Never before has a book on UFOs, abductions and the paranormal world of ghosts, fairies and demons acted so expertly as an educational tool, guiding the reader in a truly informed and exciting way along a personal journey into the unknown. Always objective but with the added observations of renowned Scottish ufologist Andrew Hennessey’s personal experiences and understanding from a very early age Alien Encounters and the Paranormal sets itself apart as a genuine, highly intelligent and heart-stopping account into an extraordinary world. Set against a diverse historical backdrop of international thinkers and theorists, including Comyns Beaumont, Erich Von Däniken, Michael Cremo, Nigel Kerner, Dr. Richard Boylan and many others, it is further enriched by the scientific perspective of Stephen Hawking, sceptic Dr. Susan Blackmore and Raymond Moody (NDEs). Eminent ufologists who have profoundly influenced contemporary UFO research such as Allen Hynek (‘high strangeness’), Townsend Brown (anti-gravity research), Steven Greer (the Disclosure Project) and Helmut Lammer (MILABS) are also presented. It brings its readers back to earth recounting the extraordinary and sometimes frightening stories of individuals like Philip Schneider, abductee Paul Schroeder, Karla Turner, Billy Meier, Robert Lazar and Garry Wood. In linking folklore and the paranormal to UFO phenomena, the author also brings to bear spiritual and religious elements, from the highly esoteric to the saintly, citing the Brahan Seer, legendary figure ‘Merlin’, Deepak Chopra and several Saints. Scotland is a contemporary ‘hotspot’ for alien sightings and paranormal phenomena, and has been for several centuries as included (although sometimes cryptically) in the historic writings of Rev. Robert Kirk (faeries), Rev. John G. Campbell (paranormal) and Mary M. Banks (folklore). Expert ufologist (UFO specialist) and folklorist Andrew Hennessey has sifted through these works and other more recent works presenting similar phenomena and has come to the realization that alien sightings are far more reaching in time and impact than many would have us believe or even believed themselves. His own further research into contemporary phenomena, documented and verified by his own untouched digital photographs, confirms a theory that has evolved into this book. As the founder of Xenopolitics, a public forum that provides an antithesis to any suggestion that alien culture is merely fictional or should be presumed to be beneficial to Earth and its inhabitants (a view proposed by Exopolitics), this book acts as a cautionary tale against apathy and disbelief regarding alien encounters, providing at the same time the language, information and history that is required to be mindful and ready for what is taking place now and could possibly happen in the future. This book is for anyone and everyone who has an interest in UFOs and the paranormal, but don’t know where to begin, don’t’ know the language and don’t know a Philip Schneider from a Paul Schroeder, but want to know. This book not only presents information, original photographs and recounts both well-known UFO sightings and new ones, it also teaches the terms and broad categories associated with ufology and the paranormal. Everyone who reads this book will become at least an armchair expert, but more importantly an informed citizen and human being. It has been prepared so that every age category from early teens upwards, from the amateur to the professional, can benefit.

Alien Encounters and the Paranormal: The Scottish Experience, by Andrew Hennessey

From the Author I have been personally involved with UFO and close encounter phenomena since childhood, often experiencing surreal events that Dr J Allen Hynek in his address to the UN would later describe as 'high strangeness'. Coming from Scotland though, this idea of paranormal visitation or 'Second sight' is nothing new and has been associated with folk and folklore in Scotland for millennia. Admittedly it has not always been an objective journey through these incredible scenarios and I went through a couple of paradigm revisions over a period of several decades of research before I arrived at an understanding that for me adequately explained the events in my life. A writer of a series of free ebooks which chart my personal journey of understanding of the status quo on Earth, I feel that with 'Alien Encounters and the Paranormal - The Scottish Experience.', I can now give myself some closure on the extra-ordinary events that I have witnessed.   I hope too that the reader can take note of how I have used our rich archive of folklore to augment my understanding of the facts that we are not alone.

By Bhaleri What a treasure trove of information about alien encounters and the paranormal! I read this book, subtitled "The Scottish Experience," over a couple of days as I filled my mind with stories of uncanny happenings, paranormal biology sightings, ghosts, faeries, and so much more. Questions are asked in this book, for example, why Scotland; why Edinburgh in particular? Sightings of UFOs abound in all areas of the world, but this area of Scotland seems to have a particular attraction for aliens, ghosts, and faeries. The author speculates on these questions, and others, for example, should we look at aliens (because of their perceived characteristics) as benign visitors or entities to be kept at a distance until we have studied them further, as much as that is possible? Some ufologists believe we should embrace them as good and friendly. But should we? Probably not, suggests Hennessey, not with the dearth of evidence to indicate unfriendly abductions having taken place over a considerable period of time. As the book is filled with supporting photographs, it is hard to be skeptical about the author's opinions and reasoning, particularly when he points out the absence of avionic coloured lighting, for example, accompanying an image, which skeptics may insist are merely the landing lights of approaching aircraft. He has studied his subject extensively, and knows the difference. Belief in God is also a topic that is included in this book, and appropriately so. For how can one expound on the supraphysical world of UFOs, which does not require any faith in a supreme being but merely the evidence of one’s eyes, and omit the greatest X-file of them all, the supernatural world that exists, a heaven promised to us by Jesus Christ? This promise requires an abundance of faith in which to believe (John 3:12). Jesus understood that the human mind, a limited intellect, doesn't have the capacity to comprehend "what things God hath prepared for those who love him," (1 Corinthians 2:09) yet praises those who believe without seeking the humanly impossible - hard evidence. Andrew Hennessey has indeed produced a well documented book, with the addition of a very extensive glossary. One is left in no doubt as to the meaning of UFO phraseology, and the other specialist language used in the book. I would certainly recommend this book. A fine teaching tool.

By Kacmor I don't mind, that the pictures are only accompanied by their title. That's enough. Watching them with your child you don't need anything more. Kid only can absorb so much. You can sit together, look at details and have a talk. Goya mostly painted court people, so talk about courtly things. Poor queen's ridiculous dress, how children on the portraits wear same stuff as grownups, as soon as possible, you can play games who spots more of what we use today or on which portrait a duchess of Alba is younger, tell them of Maja's naughty portrait, without clothing, just have fun. You might touch more serious topics, for example showing them the wedding on the street, where it can be observed that black citizens were treated with respect and equality. Whatever lesson you feel you can give. Your child will absorb everything with ease and without boredom. One thing, though. Many reviewers of Stanley Cesar's collections are frustrated with the tiny size of the pictures. You need to make an effort to learn to use your kindle. On mine, you have to quickly tap two times ON THE PICTURE YOU'RE VIEWING. That will open the big size of that picture, that not only is big enough to look at, but also allows you to move it around and stretch to make some details bigger. Once you're done you tap the X in the upper right corner and go back to your book, to turn to the other page.Overall, great books for the purpose. Reasonable price, too. If, however money IS an object, with patience you can get many of those books on their free promotion. Author is generous that way.

My Virtual Reality Trip to the Louvre, Paris Part 2 of 12 By Don Kidwell Spanish Paintings : Having left da Vinci we walked the length of the hall into the next room. Goya portraits many of fine ladies in flowing gowns from that period of which my daughter, Cathy really enjoyed. "The queen Maria Luisa" was her all-time favorite although my preference was more "Carlos IV with a horse". We're going to give Picasso a look next. And if you want to start the tour from the beginning please give da Vinci a look if you like.

This book provides a case-based illustrative approach to the understanding and management of common and important sleep disorders, including snoring and sleep disordered breathing, insomnia and circadian-rhythm disorders, as well as primary neurological sleep disorders. Case histories are written by well-established experts from University College London Hospitals who have long-standing experience of providing a multi-disciplinary approach to the management of sleepdisorders. Cases focus on the recognition of presenting features of sleep disorders and their clinical importance, using real life patients from sleep clinic. Each case report provides a detailed clinical description followed by a clear explanation of the salient points. The text is supported byphotographs, diagrams and line drawing and concludes with a list of key learning points. Each case history reads as stand-alone, although a common theme of presenting features, clinical features, investigation and treatment is adhered to. Cases are written in an easy-flowing prose style in an attempt to simulate the experience of seeing and discussing a real life patient case in clinical practice. The book is of interest to all clinicians who are likely to come across patients with sleep disorders in their clinical practice and wish to improve their understanding and knowledge of sleep disorders.
