From School Library Journal Gr 1-4-This attractive look at nature attempts a lot. The author covers eight settings ("The Garden," "The Fields"), describing the changes that occur to each throughout four seasons. The result is 32 oversize spreads of painted birds, flowers, animals, and insects. Most enlightening are the "Veg-Patch" pages, which provide labeled illustrations of a large variety of fruits and vegetables, as well as facts about general garden maintenance. "The Pond," "The Forest," "The Garden," and "The Orchard" offer general tips for observing nature, including looking for (but not touching) animal scat. Captions present more detail in addition to the introductory paragraph on each page. Teachers looking for books on seasons will be better served by Dana Meachen Rau's Seasons (Marshall Cavendish, 2010) or Deborah Hodge's Up We Grow (Kids Can, 2010). For more materials on nature observation, readers can try Annette Le Blanc Cate's Look Up!: Bird Watching in Your Own Backyard (Candlewick, 2013). About the Author KAY MAGUIRE trained at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, and has been writing and making films about gardening and wildlife ever since. She writes for magazines and websites and is the author of the award-winning RHS How to Grow Your Own Crops in Pots. She is lucky enough to live in one of London's amazing Royal Parks, where she loves growing her own food, cycling and walking the dog with her kids. Its a large, hardback book, full of beautiful illustrations.Its divided up by seasons, which makes it a fantastic educational source! Each season has 8 sections: the backyard, the veg garden, the woods, the farm, the fields, the pond, the orchard, and the street. Each section has beautiful illustrations and lots of information to help you and your child learn more about the world around them! Take your child for a walk and see how many things you can find and learn about! SO lovely!I received this book, free of charge, from Quarto Publishing Group, in exchange for my honest review.

I have been reading about a different season each night with my five year-old and she loves it. The four seasons are explored in the back yard, the garden, the farm, the pond, the woods, and the town. There are fascinating little details provided on every page about what is happening in the natural world and the illustrations are whimsical and lovely. This is the sort of book that you never give away. You keep it in the family. Nature's Day would make a fantastic gift for a child (but the adults will enjoy it too).

My kids didn't want to take it back!! It walks you through the different seasons, and what happens to different environments (city streets, farms, ponds). The drawings might not be full of "picture like detail" but they are detailed enough that my children have learned much.
