Like berry pie, lattice-crusted with strips of romance & suspense By Harold Wolf Handcrafts, farmers’ market, and the struggles of an impoverished Amish family are the heart and soul of this story. The Miller family needs are due to the daed’s ill health and a farm accident. It’s book #3 of a very believable Amish situation series. Laura V. Hilton knows Amish life and writes it true because of her family heritage.Josh returns to Jamesport needing to repair a “jumped fence” after a long and wild rumschpringe on the Appalachian Trail. There is more he needs to ask his Amish community’s forgiveness for. High on that list is his former treatment of Greta.Ach, if Gott forgave Josh, Greta can, ain’t so? Her life is not her own, needing to work to provide for her invalid daed, mamm, the kinners, & their haus. Romance rekindles behind the barn, at the creek, and banns must be read, ain’t so?First there is a series of suspenseful moments to read through. Hilton excels at instilling empathy in the readers via story events.I strongly recommend reading this series (The Amish of Jamesport) in order; even though Laura V. Hilton’s excellent wordsmithing allows each as a stand-alone. Readers grow closely with this Jamesport Amish District and its people if read in order. “The Birdhouse” both warms the heart and causes it to skip a few beats. Amish genre with depth.

Hilton delivers another exciting story in her series The Amish of Jamesport. The Birdhouse is her third book in this series but you could also read it as a stand alone. This book is full of love, forgiveness, and mystery.When Josh Yoder desires to return to his family and Amish community he knew it would be difficult. As he tries to reconnect with his former girlfriend that he left behind she doesn't make it easy. Josh keeps coming up with ways to place him and Greta Miller together.As he gets to know Greta again he discovers her family are experiencing family difficulties. Greta and her sister Gizelle are forced to work jobs to help their family. Josh wants to help but Greta believes he is only trying to court her again and keeps turning him away.When Greta's father has some serious health issues and is hospitalized, she has some unforseen problems that causes her stern Bishop to place her under a shunning. This is where the story takes a different turn and becomes very exciting. What is running thru Greta's mind when she suddenly comes up missing? Will she be found or has she run off just like Josh?There is alot more that happens in The Birdhouse and I recommend you read this story. You will be shocked as to what happens. There is an underlying story connected with faith that really adds alot to think about.I did not receive a free copy of The Birdhouse. I freely write this review in hopes it will encourage more to read it. If you love Christian fiction that includes the Amish genre, I guarantee you'll love this book.I have also rated this book with 5 stars!

She will wrap you right around her little finger with the characters and action in this fantastic Amish fiction book from The Amish of Jamesport series. Emotions run deep and the action flows. Realism is a strong point in this book. Life isn't sugar coated or depicted as saccharine. Amish life is difficult, as life is for all of us. Losses are significant and missed opportunities are heartbreaking, and these events are well described and touch the heart.Lost faith and hope are sad components in this story of struggling in adversity. Loss of trust is tangible. Misunderstandings and lies leave Greta despairing, but Josh keeps hope alive in his heart. Is his faith and love alone enough to overcome despair in Greta's life? His attraction and love for Greta have never waned, and his growing passion for her only escalates in this poignant and romantic novel of unbridled desire. I loved Greta and Josh and the journey they traveled throughout this enthralling story.Faith, hope, love and forgiveness are prominent components in "The Bird House." This book will literally take your breath away!
