About the Author Shane Stanford (MA, Duke University; Doctorate, Asbury Theological Seminary) is Senior Pastor of a 5,000+ member church in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Stanford is the author of numerous books, including The Seven Next Words of Christ, The Cure for the Chronic Life, and The Eight Blessings: Rediscovering the Beatitudes. His memoir, A Positive Life, details his life as an HIV+ and HepC+ hemophiliac, husband, father, and pastor. He is the cohost of the Covenant Bible Study program, now used in over one thousand churches. Dr. Stanford married Dr. Pokey Stanford, and they have three daughters.

Long time Christians may find it a bit basic, but this type of instruction is always worth renewing. New Christians will find the book to be a treasure, and those considering Christianity will certainly find much that is enlightening. I do recommend this highly to all.

Book on How Jesus Prayed Helps Readers to Pray Better By Emory Daniels When I think of Jesus and prayer I think first of the prayer Jesus taught His disciples and then of His prayer in Gethsemane.But, of course, Jesus prayed many times and many are recorded in the New Testament. Shane Stanford covers many of those prayers in his excellent new book “What the Prayers of Jesus Tell Us About the Heart of God.”In his book we learn Jesus routine for His prayer life and how it compared with the rabbis of that time and how the religious leaders of the day viewed prayer. The end of the book is filled with scriptural references to when Christ prayed.Some of the main points Stanford makes is that Jesus prayers for our relationship with God, prays for God’s wisdom and guidance in us, prays for unity, and that our prayers will be consistent. And Jesus prays that our lives will bring glory to God throughout worship, through our witness, and through our actions.Stanford is senior pastor of Christ Church in Memphis, a teacher, and author. A hemophiliac since birth, Stanford contacted HIV from blood transfusions at age 14 and has lived with the disease for 30 years. Besides writing several books, Dr. Stanford has written a prayer guide – “I Am Who I Pray.” The author earned an MA in theology and ethics from Duke University and a doctorate degree from Ashford Theological Seminary.“What the Prayers of Jesus Tell Us” is a short, 150-page book published by Abingdon Press. Short but impactful By Joel Holtz Shane Stanford's short but impactful book about the prayers of Jesus is written with a real sensitivity resulting from the many challenges he's faced in life. From becoming HIV Positive due to a medical treatment to contracting hepatitis, having liver damage, and undergoing open heart surgery.There are only 5 Prayer "Focuses", and the fifth one, JESUS PRAYS FOR OUR CONSISTENCY IN OUR CONSISTENCY IN PRAYER is for me easily the best one in the book.An easy read, and beneficial for both seeker and Christian alike.
