A beautifully woven masterpiece that entails a story of how a woman finds love and hope in world filled with darkness. Ana takes readers deep onto her path of self-discovery where she searches for light instead of darkness that covers her like a heavy blanket that won't lift off easily. A young woman who feels all alone with her family living on the other side of the globe, Ana wants love in her life. And with four friends and dating a doctor she works with at a clinic, Ana just might discover what family she already has and that she can have a relationship if she's willing to go after it.Erika Kochanski has written a intensifying plot that keeps readers hooked as the main character struggles within herself at what her life is and should be like. I found Polarity and Indecision to be a shocking truth the mirrors the fears and emptiness that each one of us still holds back. Ana is an inspiring proof that we can find what we are desperately needing if we dare to reach out and grab it. A contemporary romance that readers won't be forgetting and one that will stay imprinted within our hearts. A must read for all. With beautiful detailed settings of Australia, Germany to Fiji, Kochanski takes the reader on Ana’s quest to fight the unresolved darkness that had been hidden inside her for years and ultimately finding the light and solace she was so desperately searching for.The last few chapters had me in tears, as it’s a beautiful ending. I like my happy endings neatly tied up with no loose ends and Kochanski has done it perfectly.A must read and will recommend to any romance fans out there. Not just for contemporary romance readers.

Most on the market are either too easy, WAY too hard By The Lazy Bear As the director of a tutoring & test prep company, I can attest that we are always looking for tests that really give students the feel of the SAT Math Level 2. Most on the market are either too easy, WAY too hard, or simply have too much "stuff" to deal with. The Barebones Guide has four tests - plain and simple. And, given my fifteen+ years of experience tutoring this particular test, I can say they are very close in kind and difficulty to the real tests. A tiny bit harder, but, then, they admit that in the book. And you'd rather have dainty bit harder than anything easier.It's exactly what you want when you're preparing for the SAT Math Level 2.Great job, Barebones!

Helpful and Occasionally Funny By Ughhh First, I have to say that the cover *may* have influenced my decision to purchase this book (so shoot me—I like an elegant book). The advice is pretty direct and to the point, although I bought the book primarily for the tests since I'm a tutor. Whoever wrote the footnotes is clearly insane, but in a good way. The tests are at least as good as what I've seen in other books, and my kids didn't have any complaints other than that there are some pretty tricky questions, but to be fair, the book mentions this (and it's good for practice anyway).I'd buy another book from these people, but this is the only one I've been able to find.

In a world of ossified prep materials, the Barebones Guide is exactly what the doctor ordered: tough, accurate and even funny By Nathan Kane Great resource for students and teachers of the SAT math subject tests.Was able to give my students four full-length practice tests that closely mimicked the college board tests. They became more comfortable the exam and were able to target their studies towards their weakest areas. All improved.Exactly what the doctored ordered!

It's not filled with platitudes and those "pat" answers that are so infuriating to someone in pain. But instead it's filled with very personal insight and thoughtful observation from a Christian world view that will prove helpful to those left behind from suicide.

"Jesus Himself drew near, and went with them." Luke 24:15The author of Surviving the Unthinkable has not written a rulebook for (in his words) those who "have joined a club that no one wants to belong to"-- that is, those left behind in the wake of a suicide. He has not chosen to list the steps of grieving as some would. But instead he has waited on the path for those who are coming behind him, and started a conversation, sharing what might be around the corner in the process of walking through the unimaginable pain and loss of what has happened.Though the writer is a theologian, I saw this book as a down-to-earth, personal perspective of the author's own life-changing experience. He offers hope without pat answers, speaks to the grief, anger, fear, confusion and sorrow that each must pass through on the journey, and gives good reason for "looking up" to the God of all hope along the way. Most importantly, he shares the path of healing by walking alongside the reader, perhaps with the intent, that the greater healing will come to each person when they, in turn, do the same. I recommend this gentle, sensitive conversation to all who have been voted into the "club" and want not just to survive, but to keep thriiving. It can be read in an afternoon, but you will want to linger much longer.

She is a good solid romance writer and I always know I am going to enjoy it when I start one of hers.I have always liked books about house renovations. Maybe its because my husband used to be a contractor so this has personal appeal to me. I thought this part of the book was well done. It certainly kept me interested. Darlene does a good job with the descriptions so I can easily visulize everything.I loved the two main characters - Katrina and Nick. The character development was very good. I thought they both were a bit on the stubborn side but that just added to the book.Great storyline, great characters, nice, fun romance - a win/win!Thanks Darlene for sending me this ebook for my honest review!

Reviews - 5 Stars By Got Romance Reviews As the sole beneficiary of her grandmother’s will, Katrina Witherspoon finds out that she surprisingly owns property in Canada. But to honor her Gran’s last wishes she needs to renovate the house and Nick Porter must be the contractor to do the renovation. Things get interesting from the very start when Katrina contacts Nick. Sparks fly right from the beginning.Katrina relocates temporarily for the renovations and to be near the house. Unfortunately Nick and Katrina constantly butt heads with their ideas but eventually come to an agreement over the renovations and find that they can actually work together. Can they find the love that was meant just for them?I was hooked on this book from the first I started reading. I knew that it was going to be good and I was right. I loved how Nick and Katrina found each other and in spite of their pasts, they finally realized that love was all they needed and that was with each other. I would love to read more of Darlene’s books.

A fun and sweet romance By Virginia Rifkin A writing voice that will hold your attention and characters so real you’d like to have them in your own life. From Paris to Montreal, Katrina has her world disrupted by the dictates of her beloved grandmother’s will. And while Katrina is a 21st century woman, strong and decisive, with business savvy and a logical mind, other than her shopping sprees, there doesn’t seem to be very much personal fun in her life. Although character driven, there are plot twists that will keep you wondering what will happen next. A sweet romance with a hero we’d all like to meet. Nick is caring and thoughtful and stands by his word and his woman. He has been hurt in the past romantically, and Katrina has suffered the loss of loved ones, plus secrets from her past and present tend to disrupt her life. Katrina seems a little high-strung at times, but Nick is a grounding force that makes them a great couple. Both hero and heroine are hesitant to trust their hearts again. Will love win out with two such strong and stubborn personalities? It will if the twists engineered by Katrina’s Grandmother Faith, and the whims of Fate have anything to say about it. I thoroughly enjoyed this tender romance.

By Bob Miller In this book, translated from Dutch to English, author Douwe Draaisma looks at such topics as repressed memories (or rather, why they don’t really exist), why dreams cannot be fully remembered, why a colleague might subconsciously steal another’s work and claim it as his own (“unconscious plagiarism”), total recall, the impact of photographs on the memory process (the picture becomes the memory), why someone cannot remember faces, and other interesting aspects of the memory process (or lack thereof).Draaisma discusses why a child’s “first memories”, as depicted in biographical memoirs, or other “historical” accounts, are largely unauthentic and “the product of literary craftsmanship and in that sense far removed from a child’s experience”. A child doesn’t really begin to have memories until they are between three and four years old. A child has to “experience” something before he can recall it, and also be able to use language to describe the experience before it can be a memory. Sometimes, “What we call forgetting is in fact the loss of memories that have never been recalled”The author spends a fair amount of time on dreams. He says that dream images “are rarely experienced more than once, so repetition, which is generally a powerful strategy for remembering things, does not occur” (except in recurring dreams that are memorable). He analyzes Freud’s theories about dreams and other topics related to repressed memories. Once again, Freud is characterized as a sexist and fraud.He debunks myths like “we only use 10% of our brain” and that “women are better at multitasking because they have more connections between the two halves of their brains”. He explains why the theory of “absolute memory” is so improbable because every day we lose an average of almost 100,000 brain cells, some 30 million a year, although the brain consists of over a billion cells: A brain is not a machine; it is an organ with all the frailties of decay and rot attached.The author does an excellent job of describing how many people want to be remembered when he quotes from letters written by condemned political prisoners (most of these people were actually innocent) during that terrible period in French history simply known as “The Reign of Terror”. The new “Revolutionary Tribunal” rounded up and sentenced to death (by guillotine) over 1,370 men and women for fictitious acts of treason. Moments before their death, they were permitted to write farewell letters to family members or those close to them. Of significance, all most all of them wanted to be remembered as honest and innocent- they would include personal items such as a lock of their hair or a portrait as “a token of their memory”. A compelling accounting of Charlotte Corday’s last few days before her violent execution is provided in this book. The point made is that people did not want to die a “second death” by not being remembered; photography and portraits would play into this emotional outlook on death as well. I can recommend this book.

While the writing is (nearly) as elegant as that in Nostalgia, the content is far less compelling. Much of what's here seems to be studies and trivia that caught the author's interest which he then struggles to relate to his theme. Better information, better organization, and strict adherence to the theme would have made Forgetting a far better book. It isn't horrible and is worth reading. But if you're looking to get the most from this author, go with The Nostalgia Factory first.

About the Author Vladimir Borisovich Avdeyev graduated from the Moscow Power Energy Institute in 1985, as a specialist in Military Space Technology. He was a technical officer in the Soviet Air Force and was stationed near the Chinese border. His rank was equivalent to Second Lieutenant. After military service, he started work as an engineer and manager, for military industry. Since 1993, he has been a member of the Russian Writers Union. He studied anthropology and raciology, under the main experts of Russia. He live in Moscow.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Avdeyev Completely Debunks Current American Academic Thought on Race By Stanley Raciology is a Russian book translated by Patrick Cloutier. The author, Vladimir Avdeyev is aware of the Standard Social Science Model of the West in that there is no such thing as race and all cultures are equal, with the exception of those primitive peoples who are knighted as the "Nobel Savage." Avdeyev ain't buyin' it. Through almost 400 pages he notes measured differences in races including but not limited to ear wax, birth marks, teeth, breasts, hand structure, finger prints, nasal openings, facial muscles, hair, heat exchange, digestive organs, puberty, kidneys, spleen, odor, eyes, leg structure, soles of the feet, genitals, trunk relative to extremities, and lower jaw. This in addition to intelligence.Avdeyev backs his conclusions with graphs and some amazing photos. By the way the photos themselves are worth the price of the book. One small criticism is that many of the graphs, maps, and footnotes are left in the original Russian.Now, current American anthropologists and sociologists claim that race is an artificial construct recently invented. Avdeyev notes that the first popularization of the term "race" came in 1672 from a French researcher Francois Bernier. Since then the author refers to dozens of researchers who have studied race and found dozens of differences in the various races, stuff that's hard to disprove as he notes and gives photos of tools used to measure physical features.Later Avdeyev notes the correlation between race and culture and notes that Aryans (he includes Northern Russians) were once more widespread than at present and were responsible for most cultural and materialistic human progress. The author as other truth-telling researchers notes the decline in both area controlled by and number of true Aryans. I think the unstated conclusion is obvious to all of us just by looking at the changes in populations in Europe, North America, and Australia. He does note the retreat of whites from Zimbabwe and South Africa. How are those places doing today?The last part of the book deals with the perception of time. This is a difficult read, but I think the point is the development of the prefrontal cortex in Aryans gives a different world view and gets people away from living for the moment and understanding that actions can have long term consequences. One view of time leads to stagnation and the other leads to cultural and materialistic progress.Buy the book. In places it is a tough read and in other places easy and fascinating. And finally the pictures. If nothing else get the book for the photos especially those from pages 206 through 213. I dare anyone to argue that there is no difference in the races after studying these pictures. Compare them to the second photo on the back cover.

It offers much information related to race based on biology, though a lot of this data is old. However, much of this older information is still relevant in many ways. Some of the information can become a bit tiresome (measurements of skulls, eyefolds, nostrils, etc.) but this is information that would appeal to some people. Overall, I thought this book was good.

I am not a fan of older novels about "stuffy" people, but this one was pretty good. It is about Mrs. de Peyster, a proud lady who leads the social scene in her city and is determined to keep her status. Every year she spends the summer in Europe. But this summer she cant afford to go to Europe. Rather than create a scandal by not going to Europe, she creates a plan where she will send someone dressed as her on the boat to Europe while she stays hidden in her closed up house for the summer. This story is a sometimes hilarious chronicle of her summer in hiding, where people show up at her house to also live in secret and things just keep getting worse and worse as she tries to avoid discovery. Get it!!!
