She features Francis of Assisi, Clare of Assisi, Ignatius of Loyola, Therese of Lisieux, Teresa of Avila and John of the Cross. She writes a brief biography of each and then describes their approach to prayer. Each section has questions for the reader to use as a meditation. The thoughtful reader might take quite a while getting through this little book. In fact, Hutchinson is able to make the styles of each of these saints very appealing and inviting, leaving the reader wanting to know more. This a good book for people who are starting to explore ways to pray. it is a book for those who have been doing this for a while and would like a short pick me up.

It is a small (152 pages) devotional prayer book that draws upon the lives and prayer practices of Francis of Assisi, Clare of Assisi, Ignatius of Loyola, Therese of Lisieux, Teresa of Avila, and John of the Cross. I found myself taking a week for each of these saints in my evening prayer time. This is not a long book, nor is it a difficult book to read. However, there is depth in this book and I found the exercises meaningful. This is not an intellectual exploration of these figures and their practices. It is at its heart a prayer book to be prayed and not just read. For me, in this context, it accomplished its goal. At some point I hope to revisit this book as I feel that I did grow through the experience.Pastor Gregory Pierce

Praying on Your Own Can Be a Little Challenging; This Might Help By Dawn Duncan Harrell *Six Ways to Pray from Six Great Saints* balances history and how-to, but the practical section is laden with written prayers and heavily guided visualization. Hutchinson's questions are interspersed throughout and often they are yes/no questions such as, "Can I pray like xyz saint?" She assumes a Roman Catholic audience.Other books that give similar weight to biography and practical step-by-step methodology include *Creating a Life with God* and *Ten Ways to Pray.* The first aims at a mainline/postmodern audience, while the second is geared toward an evangelical audience. All three insist that praying is the point.
